Laser Bharia Test Sail Report

A big thank you for the 15 members who turned out to have a look at the new Laser Bahia last Saturday It proved to be an interesting morning with very little wind, but the boat in my opinion delivered very pleasing results despite the conditions. It is very spacious, stable and easy to sail which, as a club boat/training boat, is exactly what we need and a major step in the right direction towards bringing the club up to the present.
A big thank you to the guys from Laser for letting us have a play, and thanks to Greg at Purple Marine for organising the demo, finally thanks to Alan Brown for taking the photo's.
For what it is worth the Bahia gets my vote.
Thanks
Faz.

A nice boat with good space, I sail a Xenon which is pretty similar and the Bahia design makes it a little more user friendly for training. The total sail area is the same 28.25m2 with the main being about 20% smaller which will make it easier to handle the wind shifts on Sutton. The seating is a little more defined within the boat so new and inexperienced sailors will find it a bit safer. Laser have put handles and footholds within the hull on teh Bahia so that righting after capsizing will be eaiser, it is very hard to right a Xenon as I and many of my crew know!! The Bahia is 10% narrower so moving across as you tack is easier and similar to other boats in the club ie the GP's and Ent's. The kite is large and will offer some extra fun on larger waters. I think it will be a great boat for training at Sutton and certainly will generate some interest.
