RYA SAFETY BOAT COURSE

Jason, Clive (a stray from another sailing club) and I completed the two day safety course earlier this week which was very well presented by Allan and Faz.

Having completed the course I cannot commend it highly enough for other members of the club. We had a very interesting two days and rescued Faz after he:

1) Ran aground in a Topper near Park
2) Inverted the Topper
3) Got the Bahia stuck in the trees near Top
4) Capsized the Bahia several times but once in confined waters behind the Guard Ship
5) Became entrapped under the sails in the Bahia, unconscious

Plus many more scenarios that his devious mind could devise.

We also became familiar with all three rescue boats and their use, including towing in various forms.

A course like this is very valuable for all club members as it would give more confidence and safety when doing rescue duty.

If any club members would like to do the course please speak to Allan or Faz as I am sure that more courses could be arranged and others can assist.

The only thing that would really help on the course is for Faz to lose some weight as dragging an 'unconscious' Faz into the rescue boat is quite a challenge!
