The History of Sutton Sailing Club

Alan Turner, with his newfound coumputing skills, is undergoing the major task of writing up the history of the club.
He asked if anyone with an interesting anecdote or any other useful information about the club would kindly pass it on to him.
In typical AT mode he actually stipulated that it should all be handed to him within one week! However, he does have a softer side and I am sure he will be a bit flexible on this point.

  • I have some great memories of Sutton Sailing club during my youth.

Alan Turner calling your boat number over the line at the start - More often than not for me!
The way the wind would shift 30 degrees up near Top and Creek
They way you could (if you were lucky) Catch the wind at the top of the lake and ride a gust all of the way to the bottom.
Sausage sandwiches from the golf club at lunch time (before Stella started cooking the lunches!) purchased by fishing out golf balls from the lake.
The fear of slipping and breaking your neck whilst taking a short cut near the rescue boathouse.
Clive Beale, Jeff Briars, John Swingler, Norman Marretts go fast all in one lycra suit.

So many other happy memories ! I am looking forward to joining again to teach my children to sail as soon as they are old enough.
