Broadband at the Club
We now have broadband at the club so, if you want to browse the internet while waiting for whatever, you can, if you bring a computer.
We are connected via a Modem Wireless Router. This means that, if you have a wireless connection in your computer, you can link to the modem via a wireless connection. The modem broadcasts its network name so you can easily pick it up.
The modem also has four Ethernet connection points so, if required, you can connect via a 'hard wire' connection.
The modem is behind the payphone on the fridge and is plugged into the mains by a plug and transformer. It is normally switched off so, if you want to use it, turn it on at the switch on the wall by the side of the fridge plug. It will then flash pretty lights and be ready to use after about a minute. If there is a demand, we can run an Ethernet wire round to a more convenient point in the club room.
If anyone has a laptop they don't really need anymore, please donate it to the club. Max is also on the case.
If anyone fancies setting up a webcam then please do.

If we get a laptop or pc sorted I will look into getting a web cam set up online so we can veiw the action from the website live.
It will also help for added security.

Having now researched it a bit I have managed to show snap shot pictures onto my own web site which refresh every minute, this is pretty straight forward to do and means we could show us racing live on the web. The other facility it will do is store pictures direct to a hard drive which means we can have coveridge of the yard when we are closed.
The question is, do we need such a facility?
If we already have a club PC this can be set up very cheaply.
Any body else's veiws are welcome.

I agree that an IP camera would be most sensible and then all that is
needed at the club is a cheap router/ADSl modem to upload the pictures to
chez voius.
Happy new year Hope to make the club soon.

PS from JW - a modem/router is already installed at the club

Hi Andy,
That would be absolutely brilliant if you could.
We could even use it then in the OOD box and put the results on the blog instantly after a race as well as maybe use the webcam that Faz is working on.
We will then just need a wireless printer and we could also print the results out in the clubhouse instantly.

The Printing senario is very easily solved, connect the printer to the PC in the club house and setup a network that shares the printer.
