BANK HOLIDAY BBQ

Bank Holiday
BBQ

Saturday 3rd May
4.30 pm onwards

After the final day of the RYA Level 2 dinghy course, there will be a BBQ to celebrate all the students passing the course (hopefully).

All club members are welcome to attend and make use of the facilities (including bar), together with Tony’s infamous cookery skills.

The sailing club has the use of the water for the day, and the rescue boats will be manned, why not come down and get in that extra bit of practice and enjoy some social sailing with family and friends. Also we have our new dinghy instructors around for the day, and they all have Racing endorsements, grab them for a few hints!!!

For those who are always looking for crew’s, maybe the course members will be more than pleased to volunteer their services for the future.

Please let Jonathan or Tony know if you can make it, so that we know numbers to be catered for. Either put name on notice board or email as below. A small charge will be made to cover cost of food.

If you have any dietary requests, please let us know.

Fantastic News - Club Boats for Hire

For those of you who may not have been to the club recently, there has been some great improvements in the boats the club has available for hire by sailing members.

In the last year
- the GP14's have had new sails and a bit of a makeover and are currently being converted to take centre mainsheet arrangements
- the Bahia (a centre main modern asymetric for adults) was added
- the 2 old club toppers have been replaced by a pair of good second-hand centre main toppers
- brand new this week, 2 RS Fevas have been bought for training and to help introduce our younger sailers to the excitement and teamwork of sailing modern asymetric dinghies

These boats are there to help fulfil our RYA training course needs and for the benefit of the membership so don't feel shy about trying something new!

Obviously the club has to buy insure and repair the boats and hopefully you will understand the need to, and will want to make a contribution to these costs when you use the boats. The good news is that the fees for sailing these boats are extemely reasonable and range from £10 to £2 depending on the boat and the session - for sailing GPs, toppers and optibats the fee is the same (or less for an evening session) than it was 8 years ago!

There has been no need to date for a system of pre-booking, though the feva's hopefully will prove very popular and we may need to introduce a system there.

If you would like to use one of the boats in the club's fleet for a session, the notice in the OOD box or in the club house lists the detailed fees and the conditions of use. Obviously we wish to avoid damage to the boats and to others on the water so if the wind is high, the OOD is empowered to refuse permission to inexperienced crews to take boats on the water.

You are kindly asked to make an entry in the light blue register book in the OOD box before rigging a boat, and there will also be a supply of envelopes there to enclose the hire fee in - pass this to the OOD. If you choose to sail outside our organised sailing times, please make an entry in the register as before and drop the envelope behind the bar for later collection.

The rates are currently set as follows
Morning Afternoon Evening
Topper / Optibat £3 £3 £2
RS Feva XL £6 £6 £4
GP14 £5 £5 £4
Bahia £10 £10 £6
