RACING RULES QUIZ NIGHT

WEDNESDAY 7th NOVEMBER AT 7.30


Last year we had a ‘Racing Rules Quiz Night for the first ’First Wednesday of the Month' Social and this year, by popular demand, it is being repeated.

The quiz will be based on a series of animated graphics, a sample of which can be seen by clicking on the following link. This will take you to a 'hidden' page on our website.

This the same example that was used last year so how many of you can remember the answer? It is, of course, a common situation.

Do try to come - it should be a good night and you owe it to your fellow sailors to have some vague clue about the rules rather than seeing who can shout the loudest!.

OOD Training Evening Reminder

The second of the training evenings is this coming Wednesday, 10th October.

Alan will start with training on the start sequence and flags for those who have not yet covered this.

I will then run through the use of the computer package which can be used to make the maths of running a Handicap race very easy.

I made a mistake on the first 'Training Evening' as I simply explained what it was designed to do then left it to those interested to play with the program. This did not work, so this Wednesday I intend to go through a simulated race step by step so that those interested will know exactly how to use the package. It is quite easy to use once you know how.

My part of the evening will start about 8.15 so, if you can, please bring a laptop and a multiway mains adapter and we can then work in pairs. It will probably take about an hour maximum.

RYA SAFETY BOAT COURSE

Jason, Clive (a stray from another sailing club) and I completed the two day safety course earlier this week which was very well presented by Allan and Faz.

Having completed the course I cannot commend it highly enough for other members of the club. We had a very interesting two days and rescued Faz after he:

1) Ran aground in a Topper near Park
2) Inverted the Topper
3) Got the Bahia stuck in the trees near Top
4) Capsized the Bahia several times but once in confined waters behind the Guard Ship
5) Became entrapped under the sails in the Bahia, unconscious

Plus many more scenarios that his devious mind could devise.

We also became familiar with all three rescue boats and their use, including towing in various forms.

A course like this is very valuable for all club members as it would give more confidence and safety when doing rescue duty.

If any club members would like to do the course please speak to Allan or Faz as I am sure that more courses could be arranged and others can assist.

The only thing that would really help on the course is for Faz to lose some weight as dragging an 'unconscious' Faz into the rescue boat is quite a challenge!

ITCA (GBR) Midlands Traceller Series Results

The traveller series has finaly come to an end after a fantastic seasion for Sutton SC with a total of nine events, five to count.

All of our fleet have done us proud, with a total of over 90 boats competing in the series.

A huge thanks to the Sutton SC race support team ( The Parents) for carting them around the midlands in all weathers, the amount of time and effort involed is huge and deserves praise.
