RACING RULES QUIZ NIGHT

WEDNESDAY 1st NOVEMBER AT 7.30

Final reminder for the next 'First Wednesday of the Month' Social when we plan to have a Quiz Night on Racing Rules.

The quiz will be based on a series of animated graphics, the third sample of which can be seen by clicking on the following link. This will take you to a 'hidden' page on our website.

http://www.suttonsc.org.uk/Racing Rules 3.html

If you thought the others were easy, this should make you think, and it is a common situation.

Do try to come - it should be a good night and you owe it to your fellow sailors to have some vague clue about the rules.

CLUB TRAINING BOATS

Click chart to enlarge

Following Greg's information on the new Aura boat, I have added it to the spread sheet for comparison with the others and it does come out quite well.

I have also added the Stratos as one or two club members have suggested that it might be a reasonable training boat but it is comparatively very heavy and expensive.

HELP NEEDED

Having read Dave's review of the Merlin Open and the disappointing attendance etc etc.......
It got me thinking about the amount of work that a small few put into the club to make it what it is today and lets face it, look how far we have come and what's been achieved in the last 12 months.
Then I got to think well, are members afraid to ask to help so they don't tread on any ones toes?
Then I thought have the few actually asked for any help?
Then I thought does any one know what actually goes on behind the scenes?
So here we go:
We currently have the xmas party and a news years party to organize.
We are currently seeking new people to become instructors to help run the courses.
After racing, running the bar for an hour just to help out and give some of the others a break.
Winter first Wednesday evenings of the month, if any one fancies running a social evening?
Help needed on Dave's work parties.
The club boats could do with a day of cleaning and maintenance.
The topper fleet need help with their on going training program.
The simplest one, turning up for your duty, yet again members were deprived of sailing on Sunday as other members hadn't turned up for their duty.
This is not a moan but a simple request for some help.
It doesn't matter how big or small, whether it be running the bar for an hour or project managing an event, every bit helps and that's what makes a club.
Thanks
Faz

RYA Level 2 powerboat

If you've recently joined the club and would like at some point to do a level 2 powerboat course (or like me have been a member for some time and have been waiting for one to come up and kept missing it) this blog is for you.

I understand that these courses aren't timetabled but depend on getting sufficient people together to make up a course and then putting one on.

To assist this process - either put a note on this blog, or contact Max Coleman, our membership secretary, and he will note those who are interested. From that list it should then be easy to put courses together.

Merlin Rocket open 15 10 06

Thanks to those members who supported the club at this event, it takes a lot of effort to ensure that the day went off without a hitch, from the purchasing, preperation and delivery of a first class meal , pudding, club house, bar, bridge team and the man power to clear it all away. For the majority of members who did not attend ! YOU missed a great day, enough wind to make the merlins fly around the course, and for those of us who are interested in the technical gadgets, well the roping systems look like a wiring diagram from a BT exchange box.
Two of our topper fleet sailors were lucky enough to find crewing positions available, well done.
The racing was very exciting and 3 races of about 8 laps were run.
Negotiations have taken place for this event to be run on a saturday next year, thus giving us another sunday for club sailing.

Thanks to Purple Marine for sponsoring the event & providing the prizes.

Unfortunatly the meeting was poorly attended by the majority of club members, I have no idea why and would be greatful for any feed back. Dave Hall.

Club Boat ...

If we're thinking about the Stratos, a cheaper alternative second hand at least is the Sport 14 - Max used to have one and quite a few people sailed it - my own recollection was that it was fairly roomy and stable.

We would just like to thank todays race sponsors, Newton & Crumb & Noble Marine.

Club boat

Following the new debate about a new stable, controllable, fun and comfortable boat, I have been looking on the laser sailing site to choose a good boat and I found out that a laser stratus would be a nice big boat its simerler to a laser 2000 but a little bigger with proper seats and a wide hull.

DID YOU KNOW

Today was the third saturday of our autmn sailing course (level 2) there was only 6 people on the course, but didnt they do well. The wind was gusting and streaking, did they flinch !!! not a jot. Im sure if this had been a normal sailing day,a certain amount of club members would have offered to cover the rescue duty. All these trainees have done exceptionally well, giving them a great start in sailing. Hopefully they will stay with our club, adding to the varied and colourfull range of members, stories, ideas and commitment to SUTTON SAILING CLUB. Welcome aboard, Dave Hall.

Double Glazed Club House in Brown

We can have white or brown frames. Following Dave's comment that he preferred brown I have prepared a quick view of the club house with brown frames (though perhaps not the correct brown). The panels at the botton looked horrible in magnolia so I have changed them to white to match the facia boards at the top.

I have also increased the main window size in accordance (I think) with Allan's suggestion.

Ignore the patio side at present - it is too messy and time consuming to change that in this picture.

It is your clubhouse and it won't be changed again for a long time so, if you have strong feelings, leave a comment.

Double Glazed Club House

I might well have got it wrong but I think the new version of the club house with its double glazing will look something like the photo. White frames, and magnolia panels at the bottom.

The right hand side will have a door to the patio and probably the remaining windows will be bigger than shown.

The boat masts will also still be attached to the boats!
