If you fancy a good night out as well as helping a worthy cause, come to the Beetle Drive.
However, we can only take 50 people and we will easily get that number so, if you would like to come, please book a ticket early - probably by email as we won't be here for the next month.

Laser Bharia Test Sail Report

A big thank you for the 15 members who turned out to have a look at the new Laser Bahia last Saturday It proved to be an interesting morning with very little wind, but the boat in my opinion delivered very pleasing results despite the conditions. It is very spacious, stable and easy to sail which, as a club boat/training boat, is exactly what we need and a major step in the right direction towards bringing the club up to the present.
A big thank you to the guys from Laser for letting us have a play, and thanks to Greg at Purple Marine for organising the demo, finally thanks to Alan Brown for taking the photo's.
For what it is worth the Bahia gets my vote.
Thanks
Faz.

ANNUAL DINNER AND PRIZEGIVING

It seems like we will have a good turnout for the Annual Dinner and Prizegiving.
There are well over 50 members signed up for it now with a target of 70 so just a few more required for what should be a very good evening.

The cost will now only be £20 per head with just £10 for the 'under twelves'

Dave Batsford asks:

1) Please let him know of any seating preferences
2) If the youngsters would prefer a table on their own, please let him know
3) Please send cheques made payable to Sutton Sailing Club to Dave as soon as possible

RACING RESULTS FOR 11th FEBRUARY 2007

Although it was a bright sunny morning, a quarter of the pool was covered in ice and unfortunately it was the south quarter - right along the side of the sailing club.

However the rescue boat forced its way through about an inch thick layer of ice and then the waves caused by the boat as it was raced back and forth alongside the ice caused the ice to break up and, surprisingly, it soon melted allowing the first race to start just 30 mins late with ten boats.

The results for the Brass Monkey Handicap Race no. 6 are given in the table below.

The delay in starting the first race made the second race too late for most sailors so it was abandoned.

DEMONSTRATION OF THE LASER BHARIA

Laser will be demonstrating their new Bharia sailing dinghy at Sutton Sailing Club on Saturday 17th February starting at 10.30.

This is the boat that we are planning to buy to help to bring the 'Instruction Boats' up to date. In addition we are refurbishing the GP14s that we presently use.

Your committee have taken considerable trouble to try to select the best boat to suit our needs and we have placed a provisional order for this dinghy subject to confirmation at this demonstration. So the more of you that can come and give your opinion the better.

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH

Next Wednesday, 7th February is the 'First Wednesday of the Month' Social Night at the Club.

You have all read the STERN report on Global Warming and you will soon be swamped with predictions from the UN report which is about to be released. This includes, amongst other things, predictions that in our children's lifetime the south of France and parts of Italy will be too hot to live in if Global Warming is allowed to continue.

So - come and watch the private showing of Al Gore's main film called 'An Inconvenient Truth' and see all the evidence presented in a comprehensible way. (And help the bar takings)

Film starts at 8pm.

You will all want a windmill after seeing this film!

This is posted at the request of our Social Secretary, Tony
